Provision of the Buxco Fine Point pulmonary function system
The FinePoint system allows invasive measurement of pulmonary resistance, dynamic and static compliance and elastance in anaesthetized and tracheotomized animals.
The respiratory flow and lung pressure of the animal are measured directly and the resistance and compliance are calculated from this.
Optionally, static compliance as well as blood pressure and heart rate can also be recorded from the animals, which are placed on a warmed surface during the measurement.
The system allows variable ventilation (pressure and respiratory rate) and makes it possible to provoke or treat animals inhalationally with substances via a nebulizer. This makes it possible to program semi-automatic test sequences.
Using the FinePoint software, experimental procedures can be planned in advance and basic analyses, such as the average change in the resistance of increasing doses of methacholine compared to the negative control, can be calculated after the experiment. The system can also average data from test groups. All recorded data can be exported as an Excel file.
After the measurement, further follow-up analyses such as characterization of the cellular composition of the BAL, histology of the lung as well as immunological and molecular biological investigations of the immune system are possible.
